About Department

Nutrition as a discipline is gradually gaining importance in terms of career prospect as well as knowledge base. The General course in Nutrition commenced on 01.06.2006 and the Honours course saw the light of day on 29.07.2013 in our college. The department has one full time posts 7 SACT and 3 contractual Assistant Professor at present.

Dr. Swapan Kumar Misra, Principal, Mugberia G. Mahavidyalaya& President of the Organizing committee of the seminar, deliver his speech. Honourable Chief Guest Dr. D.C. Sen (Former Professor of Dairy Technology, Department of Dairy Technology, West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences, Mohanpur campus, Nadia), and Guest of Honour, Dr. Krishna Das Saha, (Principal Technical Officer, Cancer Biology and Inflammatory Disorder Division, CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Jadavpur) was present among us. The programme sucessfully ended with the Vote of thanks by the Departmental Head Dr. Apurba Giri.

To celebrate this Department of Nutrition, Mugberia G. Mahavidyalya organized a Celebration of' Rashtriya Poshan Maah', 1-30th September, 2022. For this an awareness programme was done in Krishnanagar M.N. High School on 21st September, 2022 by Dept of Nutrition in collaboration with NSS, IQAC and Women Cell of Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalayan. In that program total 70(F-41,M-29) school students and school 5 (F-1, M-4) teacher participated in this program. Four faculty members and 8 students of Mugberia G. Mahaviydalaya were also present in that program. Miss Rikta Jana, Mr. Prabir Jana, Mr. Khokan Gayan and Mr. Tanmoy Giri (SACT teachers, Department of Nutrition) and Sangita Hazra, Rajaram Giri, Anuja Guria, SukantaBhuina, Shreya Maity, Kabita Das, and Krishna Jana (B.Sc 5th Sem students of Department of Nutrition), nicely presented PPT and participate this celebration. A special lecture given by Kalpana Choudhury, (Retd. Registerd Dietitian SSKM Hospital, Kolkata) and Prof. Dr. B.K. Choudhury (Retd. Prof. & HOD, Dept of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Calcutta Medical College ,Kolkata) and Ms. Smita Sau (Assistant prof. of Budge Budge College).

The international webinar aimed to explore effective strategies utilizing functional foods to enhance immunity and combat COVID-19. Hosted on 15/07/2020, the event gathered experts, researchers, and participants .

In that camp students checked health of community people by measuring blood pressure, body weight, body height, MUAC, Blood grouping. 6th sem student presented their poster for awareness.

A programme of "Organizing health camp and patients' feed back at hospital level" was organized by Dept of Nutrition, Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya at Bhupatinagar Mugberia Rural Hospital on 1st April. 2022 at 11 am-3pm to help motivate and encourage student. Health camp was organized to help the poor to get healthcare free of cost. Prof. Rikta Jana, SACT teacher, Department of Nutrition, was the main organizing team leader of this program. Total 18 students (Female: 17, Male:1) with 3 faculty members (Male: 02 and Female: 01) conducted in this program and communicated with 30 patients (10 male and 20 female).

Department of Nutrition in collaboration with NSS and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan , Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya is going to organise an Exposure visit of students for bio village project at Baghadari on 30th June, 2023, Friday at 11:00 am. Mr.Gourhori Acharyya, Retired Government employee Dept of Agriculture, Assistant farm manager Bhagwanpur II block. Will Exposure visit and lecture on the topic “Bio village of Agriculture” B. Sc 4th Sem attend this programme. Total 18 students (Female: 17, Male:1) with 1 faculty members (Male: 01 ) . This exposure visit 3 farmers are communicate and help everyone.

Departmentof Nutrition, Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya had organized an educationalexcursion program at Agricultural and Food Engineering Department, IIT Kharagpur,West Bengal 721302 on 30th agust 2022. Total 42 students of M. Voc (FoodTechnology Nutrition and Management) (Male-18, Female-24) with10 facultymembers (Male-3, Female-7), 2 research scholars and 1 lab attendant hadparticipated in this excursion. The excursion provided the students to gain researchknowledge and knowledge about development of new product. Which is veryimportant part of a student’s life specially for higher studies because its increasesdesire to research on something new. The students are very much interested andmotivated by observing the research instruments and pilot production ofspecific product (like iron fortified rice). Students are interacted with researchscholar and professor of Agricultural and Food Engineering Department of IITKharagpur, which helped them to gain research knowledge. Lastly examinationwill be done on the same day after the excursion.

Educational trips stimulate learning beyond what textbooks and videos can provide to the learning environment. This is not to say that all Educational trips are equally stimulating, but those excursions that are well-designed result in higher levels of academic achievement in every subject of study.

Department of Nutrition observed “World Kidney Day (9th march 2023)” on 14th march 2023 at 3:30 p.m. with 47 students (4 male and 43 female) and our faculty members. In line with this year’s theme of “Kidney Health for All”, our 2 students of B.Sc. Nutrition Honours were presented their topic named as “Chronic kidney failure” through power point presentation.

This year the symposium was jointly organized by Department of Nutrition, Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya with Bhupatinagar Mugberia Rural Hospital, Bhagwanpur –II.Therewere106(F-69, M-37) students, our all faculty members, some medical staffs Dipanjan Manna (STS), Biswajit Maiti (MT-lab/STLS), Swadesh Kumar Rath (BSI), Sandhya Rani Mani (PHN) are present. The program was successfully completed.

Our Department of Nutrition also organizes picnic every year. But important thing of this Department is all students will decides that where they want to go 26.01.2020. Total participate in this picnic is 119. This time we all are very excited because in a history of Department of Nutrition it happened very first time that we arranged picnic at very far place from The Dargah of Masnad-e-Aala or Hijli Sharif mazar is widely known in this part of Bengal for fulfilling the wishes of the needy. An extensive area situated on the eastern bank of Rasulpur River in the Contai subdivision of East Midnapore district of West Bengal, Hijli has a rich 300-year-old history.

Pan Seed Pvt. Ltd. has conducted Campus recruitment drive on 5th February 2020 in Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya, Bhupatinagar, Purba Medinipur to our students of Botany and Nutrition Department. Total 22 (male-12and female-10) students are faces this campus. Pan Seeds Private Limited is an unlisted private company incorporated on 17 June, 2010.

Three days Capacity building programmed on "Meditation and Breath Workshop"- Organized by Dept. of Nutrition in collaboration with IQAC, Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya on 12-14th January, 2023. The program was designed by Art of Living Organization, Bangalore. Faculty- Amitava Sarkar, No. of participated students- 24 workshop on "Happiness program" entitled on 12-14th January, 2023 at 1.00 pm -4.00pm onwards to help, motivate and encourage for student. Dr. Apurba Giri Assistant Professor &H.O.D, Department of nutrition, was joining this program.

. Students of First Year (batch:2022-23) B. Voc., B.Sc., M.Voc. students were welcomed with the red rose to this party which was organized by B.SC., B.VOC. , & M.VOC final years students at S.N. Bose Hall at 10: 00 PM. The program started with the inaugural speech by our honourable Principal Dr. Swapan Kumar Mishra. The program started with lamp lightening . After the inaugural speeches there was a welcome song performance B.sc 3rd sem students. Total 123 students and 10 teachers were present.
